Rough Waters

Acadia holds a special place in my heart. It’s one of my mom’s favorite places, and our family trip there is a memory I’ll never forget—not just for its breathtaking landscapes, but for the rough waters we found ourselves in.

We had signed up for a kayaking tour, expecting a peaceful paddle along the shore. Instead, we were thrown into the middle of a tropical storm. The water churned, waves crashed, and instead of hugging the coastline, we were sent straight across the bay. We had no business being out there—but there we were, caught in it, paddling against the force of something so much bigger than us. It was exhausting. It was terrifying. And it took everything we had to fight our way back.

That feeling—of being in over your head, of fighting through something you never expected—is what so many kids and families face when cancer hits. The waters turn rough in an instant, and suddenly, they’re in the fight of their lives.
